Oyo Gov Makinde Condemns State of Emergency in Rivers, Calls It Illegal
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, calling it an illegal suspension of democracy.
On Tuesday, President Tinubu suspended Rivers State Governor Similayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and the State House of Assembly for six months, appointing Vice Admiral Ibok Ibas (Rtd.) as Sole Administrator.
In his biweekly newsletter, The Business of Governance (Issue 110), published on Thursday, Makinde condemned the decision, warning that it sets a dangerous precedent.
> "I stand firmly against this unconstitutional act. Suspending the executive and legislative arms of government undermines our democracy."
