Nine Convicted for Cybercrime in Uyo, Sentenced by Federal High Court

Nine individuals have been convicted and sentenced for various cybercrime offences by Justices Ijeoma Ojukwu and Rosemary Dugbo Oghoghorie of the Federal High Court in Calabar.

The convictions followed separate prosecutions initiated by the Uyo Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The offences ranged from impersonation and internet fraud to money laundering and unlawful possession of crime proceeds.

The convicted persons include Nsofor Charles Ochiabutor, Aneikan Monday Akpan, Igwe Greg, Ubong Emmanuel, Columba Chukwubuikem David, Edet Christopher Asuquo, Justice Chinonso, David Sunday Aniete, and Fidelis Andrew Effiom.

According to court documents, Ochiabutor was found guilty of knowingly possessing $3,000 believed to be proceeds from fraudulent activity. He received a 12-month sentence on each of his two charges or an alternative fine of ₦1 million. He was also ordered to return the full amount to his victim. His jail terms are to run concurrentl
