NiMet Forecasts Dust Haze Across Nigeria from Friday to Sunday
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has announced a forecast of dust haze affecting various regions of the country from Friday to Sunday.
In a weather outlook released on Thursday in Abuja, NiMet indicated that moderate dust haze is expected in the northern regions on Friday, with visibility levels between 2 km and 5 km. There is also a possibility of localized visibility dropping below 1,000 meters during this period.
The North-central states are likely to experience slight dust haze, while the southern regions will encounter moderate dust haze with similar visibility conditions of 2 km to 5 km throughout the forecast period.
On Saturday, NiMet anticipates thicker dust haze in the north, maintaining visibility in the range of 2 km to 5 km, with localized visibility again falling below 1,000 meters. Meanwhile, the southern region will likely continue to experience slight dust haze.
For Sunday, moderate dust haze is expected in both the northern and North-central regions, with visibility remaining between 2 km and 5 km. The southern areas will still see slight dust haze throughout the day.
NiMet advises the public to take necessary precautions, as airborne dust particles may pose health risks. Individuals with respiratory conditions, such as asthma, are particularly urged to exercise caution. Residents are encouraged to stay updated through NiMet's weather reports, and airline operators are recommended to refer to airport-specific weather information to effectively plan their operations.
