Nigerians Account for One in 30 UK Asylum Claims from 2010 to 2024

Between 2010 and 2024, the United Kingdom Home Office received 22,619 asylum applications from Nigerian nationals, making them one of the top contributors to asylum claims in the country.

 Nigerians accounted for approximately one in every 30 asylum claims during this period, ranking 11th in the Home Office's newly released year-end Asylum and Resettlement statistics.

Notably, asylum applications from Nigerians saw a sharp increase in 2024, with 2,841 applications, almost doubling the number from 2023, which had 1,462 applications. Overall, 2024 marked the highest number of asylum applications ever received by the UK, with a total of 108,138 claims an increase of 378% from 2010
