Nigerian Senate Suspends Female Senator Over Sexual Assault Accusation

The Nigerian Senate has suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan for six months following her accusation of sexual assault against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The Senate's ethics committee dismissed her claim due to procedural rule violations, leading to her suspension. Akpoti-Uduaghan, one of the few women in the chamber, protested the decision but was escorted out by security.

Senate President Akpabio has denied any involvement in the alleged assault. Critics have condemned the committee's handling of the case, calling it biased. Senator Opeyemi Bamidele suggested that Akpoti-Uduaghan should use the suspension period to learn the rules of the Senate. Akpoti-Uduaghan has sued Akpabio, seeking significant damages.
