NCC Shifts USSD Charges from Bank Accounts
Effective June 3, 2025, USSD transaction fees will no longer be deducted directly from customers’ bank accounts.
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has mandated that these charges be taken from users’ mobile airtime instead.
United Bank for Africa (UBA) confirmed this change in an email to customers, explaining that under the new End-User Billing (EUB) system, each USSD session will cost ₦6.98 per 120 seconds, billed by the mobile network operator.
Customers will receive a prompt seeking consent before each transaction, and airtime will only be deducted if the user agrees and if the bank can complete the service.
