Lagos State Safety Commission Urges Compliance with Authorized Occupancy Limits

The Lagos State Safety Commission has expressed concern over the rising trend of overcrowding in clubs and lounges across the city. In a recent statement, the Director General/CEO, Mr. Lanre Mojola, highlighted the importance of adhering to authorized occupancy limits approved by the Commission. While acknowledging the economic benefits of a vibrant nightlife, Mojola stressed that safety must remain a top priority.

Mr. Mojola pointed out the significant safety risks associated with overcrowding, which include potential fire hazards, compromised emergency exits, and an increased likelihood of accidents. He emphasized that these risks endanger not only the lives of patrons but also the staff and the general public. The Commission is committed to ensuring that all hospitality venues operate within safe limits.

To enforce compliance, the Commission has initiated rigorous inspections of clubs and lounges. Any establishment found in violation of safety regulations will face immediate closure and further legal actions as deemed necessary. Mojola called on all venue owners and operators to strictly adhere to the safety measures set forth by the Lagos State Safety Commission.

In closing, he expressed gratitude for the cooperation of all stakeholders in maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone
