Lagos State Government Denies Claims That the City "Smells," Calls It an Evolving Megacity

The Lagos State Commissioner for Water and Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, has dismissed widespread claims that Lagos has an unpleasant odor, asserting instead that the city is undergoing rapid evolution.

In a statement released on Friday, Wahab countered the notion that Lagos, Nigeria’s "Center of Excellence," has sanitation issues that make it smell. Instead, he emphasized that the state government has implemented comprehensive environmental policies aimed at making Lagos cleaner and more livable.

"Lagos is not 'smelling'; Lagos is evolving," Wahab said. "The Lagos State Government is fully committed to environmental sustainability and has developed a multi-sectoral approach to ensure a clean, resilient, and livable city."
