Lagos Governor Suspends Media Aide Over Controversial Claims

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has suspended his Senior Special Assistant on Print Media, Mr. Wale Ajetunmobi, following a misrepresentation of facts regarding the #EndSARS protests.

Ajetunmobi stirred controversy on social media platform X when he claimed that arsonists responsible for the 2020 fire at the Television Continental (TVC) head office had been “hunted and executed.” This statement comes amidst ongoing discussions about the allegations of extrajudicial killings during the protests, which included a damning report from the Lagos State Judicial Panel that indicted Sanwo-Olu and the Nigerian Army for their actions at the Lekki Toll Gate.

Despite the panel's findings, the Lagos State government has consistently rejected the indictment. Ajetunmobi's post, which was later deleted, sparked outrage and calls for clarification from the public. In response to the backlash, Sanwo-Olu announced Ajetunmobi's suspension, citing the need to address the “misinterpretation of  I fact.”
