House of Representatives Proposes Bill to Ban Commercial Surrogacy
The Nigerian House of Representatives has introduced a bill aimed at banning commercial surrogacy and strictly regulating the practice for altruistic purposes only.
The bill, titled “A Bill for an Act to Protect the Health and Well-being of Women, Particularly in Relation to Surrogacy and for Related Matters,” was sponsored by Hon. Uchenna Okonkwo of Anambra State’s Idemili North/Idemili South Federal Constituency.
Presented earlier this week, the bill is set for further debate next week.
