Former Edo Governor Godwin Obaseki Under EFCC Investigation

Former Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, has been placed on the watch list of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), as the agency investigates various transactions and contracts awarded during his tenure. This development comes shortly after Obaseki left office on November 12, following an eight-year term.

Reports indicate that the EFCC has initiated inquiries into financial dealings from Obaseki's administration, with his successor, Monday Okpebholo, forming a 14-member State Assets Verification Committee to further scrutinize the former governor's time in office.

On November 2, the EFCC arrested five officials from the Edo State government, including Accountant General Julius Anelu, in connection with substantial withdrawals from the state treasury.

Despite the ongoing investigation, Obaseki has expressed confidence, stating on November 8 that he is not afraid of the probe and is willing to cooperate with the EFCC to account for his administration's activities.
