FG Closes Waterway Between Eko and Carter Bridges After Structural Damage to Eko Bridge
The Federal Government has ordered the immediate closure of the waterway between Eko Bridge and Carter Bridge in Lagos following structural damage to the Eko Bridge caused by dredging activities.
Minister of Works, David Umahi, confirmed the incident during an inspection of major bridges in the state on Saturday.
He explained that a dredger had struck a pier cap on the Eko Bridge, resulting in the collapse and sinking of the pier. Umahi expressed serious concern over the damage and assured that the operator of the dredger responsible has been apprehended. The minister also urged Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to enforce the waterway closure to prevent any further risks.
