Defence Headquarters Denies Viral Video of Alleged Attack on Nigerian Troops as Old Footage

The Defence Headquarters has refuted a widely circulated video claiming to show a recent attack on Nigerian soldiers in Marte, Borno State, labeling it recycled content designed to mislead the public and undermine the morale of the Armed Forces.

In a statement released on Friday, May 16, in Abuja, Major-General Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, revealed that forensic analysis traced the video back to December 2020. He clarified that the footage is unrelated to any recent incident.

Kangye further explained that the video is being deliberately repurposed by individuals supportive of terrorist groups to spread false information and tarnish the military’s efforts in combating terrorism.
