CDS Condemns Lynching of Northern Hunters in Edo, Calls for Justice
The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has condemned the gruesome killing of northern hunters in Edo State, calling for justice and a crackdown on mob violence.
The tragic incident, which occurred on March 28, 2025, involved a vigilante group and armed youths who allegedly attacked the victims, mistaking them for criminals. Reports indicate that the victims were traveling from Rivers State to celebrate Eid-el-Fitr when they were forcefully removed from their vehicle, beaten, tied to tires, doused in petrol, and set on fire. Disturbing videos circulating online show them pleading for their lives as bystanders watched.
In an official statement, Defence spokesperson Brig. Gen. Tukur Gusau relayed General Musa’s call for restraint, emphasizing that only trained security forces should handle such situations. He also urged all local hunters and vigilante groups to register with security agencies for proper oversight and firearm regulation.
