Burna Boy Faces Lawsuit in New York
Nigerian Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy has been hit with a lawsuit in New York by Haitian music icon Fabrice Rouzier, who alleges that Burna Boy used elements from his 2002 track Je Vais without authorization in the recently released song 4 Kampe II.
The legal case, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York, also names French-Haitian singer Joe Dwet File (real name Joe Gilles) as a co-defendant.
Rouzier claims that the copyright infringement began in late 2024 when Joe Gilles released the original 4 Kampe, which was allegedly based on Je Vais. Despite receiving a cease-and-desist letter from Rouzier, Gilles proceeded to release 4 Kampe II on March 28, 2025, this time featuring Burna Boy.
