Arsenal star Bukayo Saka has received the prestigious Sócrates Award at the 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony, with Grammy Award-winning Nigerian singer Burna Boy presenting the honour on stage.
The award recognises Saka’s humanitarian efforts through his partnership with BigShoe, supporting life-changing surgeries for children in Nigeria, providing 50 container homes for 84 families displaced by earthquakes in Morocco, and helping 26 families in Turkey access emergency housing.
During his acceptance speech, Saka shared a touching letter from 14-year-old Biringiro in Rwanda, who began losing his eyesight at the age of 12 before receiving life-changing restorative care through the initiative.
Beyond his achievements on the football pitch, Saka continues to demonstrate how athletes can use their influence to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. ❤️????
