Joe Biden has explained why he waited so long to exit the 2024 presidential race, attributing his delay to the "success" he believed he was having in office. 

The 82-year-old former president shared his perspective during his first broadcast interview since leaving office, saying he didn't think it would have made a difference if he had withdrawn earlier.

In an interview with BBC Radio 4's Today program, Biden downplayed the significance of his late decision, asserting that his departure timing did not impact the outcome of the election. "I don’t think it would have mattered," Biden said when asked if stepping down sooner would have given his running mate, Kamala Harris, a better chance.
