Former U.S. President Barack Obama has criticized President Donald Trump’s decision to bar CNN, MS NOW, and Politico from the White House, saying he could not have imagined taking such a step while he was president

Speaking at Colgate University, Obama reflected on the current political climate and asked the audience to imagine how the public would have reacted if his administration had similarly excluded Fox News.

“My imagination could not foresee some of the stuff that’s going on right now,” Obama said, before asking what would have happened if he had told Fox News, “You’re out of here.”

Trump announced the media ban on September 18, accusing CNN, MS NOW, and Politico of repeatedly publishing what he described as “fake news. Journalists from the three outlets were subsequently denied access to the White House.

The move has prompted criticism from press organizations and renewed debate over the relationship between the White House and the media
