Adelabu Blames Previous Governments for Nigeria’s Electricity Woes

Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has attributed the country's electricity crisis to years of mismanagement and failed reforms under past administrations.

 In a statement released through his media aide, Bolaji Tunji, Adelabu said previous governments paid lip service to power sector reforms, leading to the decay the country now faces.

The minister’s comments come amid growing concerns from power generation companies (GenCos), who recently warned of a potential nationwide blackout due to a staggering N4 trillion debt owed by the Federal Government.

 Out of the total, N2 trillion accounts for electricity generated in 2024 under the current administration, while the remaining N1.9 trillion is legacy debt.
