YOU CAN LOVE PEOPLE DEEPLY AND STILL LOSE YOURSELF TRYING TO SAVE THEM

YOU CAN LOVE PEOPLE DEEPLY AND STILL LOSE YOURSELF TRYING TO SAVE THEM. ????

You give your time. Then your energy. Then your peace. Then your sleep.

Until one day, you look in the mirror and barely recognise the exhausted person staring back at you.

Clinical psychologists Vicki Helgeson and Heidi Fritz have studied a pattern known as “unmitigated communion” — when caring for others becomes so consuming that you neglect your own needs.

It can look like:

* Always putting everyone else first.
* Carrying other people’s problems as if they were your own.
* Feeling guilty whenever you choose yourself.
* Giving endlessly but struggling to ask for support in return.

Research has linked this pattern with greater psychological distress, including symptoms of anxiety and depression.

But here’s what you need to understand: your kindness is not the problem. Your lack of boundaries might be.

Healthy love allows you to care for others without abandoning yourself. You can support someone without carrying their entire world. You can love someone without sacrificing your peace to prove it.

Pay attention to who checks on you, not just who calls when they need something.

Learn to say no without feeling like a bad person. Stop confusing being needed with being loved. And remember that you deserve the same patience, consideration, and understanding you so freely give to others.

Your kindness is a gift, not an unlimited resource for people to exploit.

Stay kind. Stay loving. Just stop pouring from an empty cup for people who never think to refill it. ❤️‍????

BE HONEST: Who has drained you the most — a partner, a friend, or a family member?

Share this with someone who gives so much to others but rarely receives the same love in return.
