Tinubu Appoints Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas as Rivers State Administrator Amid State of Emergency
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd) as the sole administrator of Rivers State following the declaration of a state of emergency in the state.
The decision, announced on Tuesday, March 18, includes the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and 27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for an initial period of six months. President Tinubu emphasized that the judiciary in the state would continue to function as usual.
Vice Admiral Ibas, a retired naval officer, served as Nigeria’s Chief of Naval Staff from 2015 to 2021. Born on September 27, 1960, in Cross River State, he was commissioned as a sub-lieutenant in the Nigerian Navy in 1983 after enrolling in the Nigerian Defence Academy.
