TikTok influencer, Tobe, is getting dragged on TikTok for speaking about the Yoruba tribe.
According to him, “Yoruba” is not originally a Yoruba word, and the ancestors did not identify as Yoruba but as Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo, and so on.
He claims they were called “Yariba” in 1613.
He also explained that Ajayi Crowther was the one who came up with the word “Yoruba” when he translated the Bible.
He ended it by saying one’s identity is not ancient but new.
TikTokers are now dragging him because the word “Yariba” is seen as a demeaning term used by other tribes to talk down on Yoruba culture.
