SOUTH AFRICAN MAN SENTENCED TO 20 YEARS FOR RAPING HIS MOTHER

A 22-year-old South African man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to raping his biological mother at her home in Carnarvon, Northern Cape.

The incident reportedly occurred on November 23, 2025, while the 42-year-old woman and her partner were asleep after drinking alcohol.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority, the man returned home and sexually assaulted his mother while she was asleep. She woke during the incident, confronted him, and he fled the house.

He initially denied the allegations after his arrest, but DNA evidence later linked him to the offence. Faced with the evidence presented by prosecutors, he ultimately pleaded guilty.

In her victim-impact statement, the mother described feeling “deeply hurt and betrayed”, explaining that she had raised her son as a single parent. She told the court that she continues to receive counselling and struggles with ongoing trauma and sleep difficulties.

The court considered his guilty plea as a mitigating factor but determined that the seriousness of the offence warranted a lengthy prison sentence.

He was sentenced to 20 years’ direct imprisonment and ordered to have his details entered into South Africa’s National Register for Sex Offenders.
