Oba of Benin Declares Governor Okpebholo Divinely Chosen to Restore Edo's Glory
The Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty Oba Ewuare II, has proclaimed that Governor Monday Okpebholo was divinely selected by the ancestors to restore the lost glory of Edo State.
The monarch made this revelation during a solidarity visit by Governor Okpebholo to the Benin Palace on Thursday, following his triumph at the Edo State governorship election tribunal in Abuja.
In his address, Oba Ewuare II described Okpebholo as a true son of the soil and offered prayers for him and his family, asking the ancestors to bless them for remaining steadfast in the face of challenges. The monarch performed an unusual gesture by lifting the governor after he knelt in gratitude, foreseeing that Okpebholo’s administration would bring significant development to the state.
Speaking in Edo language, Oba Ewuare II said, "It shall be well with you, your wife, and your children. Our ancestors approved your journey to Edo. They brought you to restore the lost glory of the state that evildoers tried to steal."
Governor Okpebholo, in response, expressed his deep gratitude for the Oba’s prayers and support, calling his tribunal victory the "historic and sweetest judgment ever."
