NEW INVESTIGATION RAISES CONCERNS OVER CONTAMINANTS IN CAT FOOD
A new investigation provided exclusively to CNN has found traces of multiple potentially harmful contaminants in nearly all of the cat food samples tested.
Researchers tested 100 top-selling cat food products across 62 brands for more than 122 substances, including heavy metals, pesticides, herbicides and phthalates — chemicals associated with plastic production.
The investigation reported that lead was detected in 99% of the samples, cadmium in 96%, and arsenic in 94%. Glyphosate and other contaminants were also reportedly detected.
The levels and types of contamination varied depending on the product — including wet, dry and air- or freeze-dried food — as well as the primary protein source, such as poultry, beef or fish.
The findings are raising fresh questions about what goes into commercially produced pet food and what long-term exposure could mean for cats.
If you have a cat, would findings like these make you reconsider the food you buy
