However, his past associations have come under scrutiny due to resurfaced photographs from 2013, showing him alongside convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell at a British festival held at Cornbury Park, the estate of his sister-in-law, Lady Tania Rotherwick. 

Carney's representatives have downplayed these images, stating that he is not friends with Maxwell and that their encounters were incidental. They emphasize that the photographs are over a decade old and do not indicate any ongoing association.
