FASHION LEGEND BOB MACKIE DIES AT 87 ????️✨
Legendary fashion and costume designer Bob Mackie, whose dazzling creations were worn by icons including Cher, Dolly Parton, Tina Turner and Miley Cyrus, has died at the age of 87, according to a statement shared on his social media accounts.
“It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that Mr. Bob Mackie passed away today.”
Mackie became famous for his glamorous, over-the-top designs and his long-standing creative partnership with Cher. He also designed the costumes for The Carol Burnett Show, creating Burnett’s iconic wardrobe throughout the series.
Known by nicknames including “The Sultan of Sequins,” “The Rajah of Rhinestones” and “The Guru of Glitter,” Mackie’s signature style became instantly recognizable and continued to influence generations of stars. ✨
Throughout his remarkable career, Mackie won nine Emmy Awards, received three Oscar nominations, was inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame, and won a Tony Award for The Cher Show. He also received a lifetime achievement award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America.
His designs may have been extravagant, but his influence on fashion, entertainment and pop culture was undeniable.
