Ex-Manager Tunde Phoenix Claims Asake’s Work Ethic Cost $4M in Lost Gigs

Former manager of Afrobeats star Asake, Tunde Phoenix, has expressed frustration over what he describes as the singer’s lack of commitment, which allegedly led to the loss of performance deals worth over $4 million.

Taking to social media, Phoenix listed several high-profile gigs that Asake either missed or failed to secure, blaming his work ethic for the financial setbacks.

Among the lost opportunities was Flytime Fest, which Phoenix claims was worth far more than ₦200 million. He also mentioned the Lagos Countdown, an event where Asake was expected to perform but ultimately did not. Other missed deals included a $400,000+ gig at Oando Oil’s end-of-year event, where he was supposed to perform with a DJ and live band, as well as a performance at Tony Elumelu’s End-of-Year Celebration, which Phoenix described as a major corporate opportunity.

Phoenix criticized Asake for citing exhaustion from his world tour as a reason for declining these performances, arguing that the artist only performed 11 shows in all of 2024.

He called this output "pathetic" for someone who is aiming for mega stardom and should be capitalizing on their prime years in the industry.
