Yobe State Police Arrest 54-Year-Old Woman for Trafficking 350 Rounds of Ammunition

The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a 54-year-old woman, Hamsatu Modu, for trafficking 350 rounds of ammunition from Buni Yadi to Damaturu.

DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, the spokesperson for the Command, announced the arrest in a statement on Monday, October 21, 2024. Modu, who hails from Morami village in Jakana, Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State, was apprehended by police operatives at the ‘A’ Divisional Police Headquarters in Damaturu.

On October 20, 2024, at approximately 6:30 PM, the police received credible intelligence about a suspected gunrunner en route to Damaturu. Swift action led to the interception of a Golf 3 saloon car, where a thorough search uncovered 350 rounds of live 7.62×39 MM ammunition concealed in Modu’s luggage.

The suspect is currently undergoing interrogation as investigators work to uncover the criminal network and motives behind the trafficking operation.

Commissioner of Police, CP Garba Ahmed, emphasized the Command’s commitment to combating crime and urged community members to cooperate with security agencies. He also advised the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or individuals to the nearest police station, reinforcing the message: “If you see something, say something.”
