EFCC Recovers Over N248 Billion in One Year, Charges Four Former Governors


The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced the recovery of approximately N248,750,049,365.52 between October 18, 2023, and October 2024. In addition to this substantial amount, the commission reported the recovery of various foreign currencies, including $105,423,190.39, £53,133.64, and €172,547.10, among others.

During a press briefing to mark the first year of Olukayode's tenure as EFCC Chairman, Director of Public Affairs Wilson Uwujaren outlined the commission's achievements. He highlighted that the EFCC has charged four former governors with alleged corruption: Yahaya Adoza Bello of Kogi, Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara, Willie Obiano of Anambra, and Darius Dickson Ishaku of Taraba.

Uwujaren provided details on Yahaya Bello's case, noting that he faces charges in two separate courts. In one instance, he is charged at the Federal High Court in Maitama, Abuja, with 19 counts related to money laundering amounting to N80,246,470,088.88.
