President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Major General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede as the acting Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of the Nigerian Army. This decision was communicated by presidential spokesman Mr. Bayo Onanuga, who noted that Oluyede will serve in this capacity until the return of the substantive Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, who is currently indisposed.
Prior to this appointment, Major General Oluyede held the position of the 56th Commander of the elite Infantry Corps of the Nigerian Army, stationed in Jaji, Kaduna. At 56 years old, Oluyede has a notable military career, having been commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1992 after joining the army in 1987.
He ascended to the rank of Major General in September 2020 and shares a close professional background with Lt. General Lagbaja, as both are coursemates from the 39th Regular Course.
