University Workers Threaten to Resume Strike Over Withheld Salaries

Members of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Other Associated Institutions (NASU) have announced plans to resume their suspended strike due to the Federal Government's failure to pay four months' worth of salaries.

During the union's National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja, Prince Peters Adeyemi, the General Secretary of NASU, conveyed the members' frustrations, stating, "We are going to resume the suspended strike." While no specific start date for the strike was disclosed, it is expected that the NEC will finalize their decision during the meeting.

The announcement comes in the wake of President Bola Tinubu's directive in October 2023, which called for the payment of two out of the four months of withheld salaries owed to NASU and the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU) from the previous administration. This payment was part of efforts to resolve ongoing disputes following a prolonged strike
