Swedish police have reportedly broadened their investigation following allegations of rape and sexual harassment against French football star Kylian Mbappé. The accusations surfaced during his visit to Sweden with friends from October 9 to October 11, when he stayed at the Bank Hotel in central Stockholm.
Immediately after the allegations came to light, Mbappé responded by denouncing a report from Aftonbladet as "fake news," which claimed a rape incident occurred at the hotel on October 10. However, Swedish newspaper Expressen later reported that Mbappé himself is under investigation, although he has not been officially named as a suspect.
On the night in question, Mbappé was seen at Chez Jolie restaurant before moving on to the V nightclub, eventually returning to the hotel in a black van with his entourage. He played his first match since the allegations for Real Madrid over the weekend, scoring in their 2-1 victory against Celta Vigo.
Reports indicate that the investigation is actively progressing, with police and forensic teams conducting inquiries at the hotel. They visited the premises over the weekend and interviewed several staff members to ascertain which rooms and areas were accessed by Mbappé and his group. The involvement of CCTV footage is considered crucial for the investigation, and police have also examined the suite where Mbappé stayed.
While police have maintained silence on specific updates regarding the case, reports suggest that forensic investigators were seen leaving the hotel with several brown paper bags, indicating the collection of potential evidence
