Rivers State Police Arrest Three Officers for Alleged Extortion of Motorists

The Rivers State Police Command has apprehended three of its officers for allegedly extorting motorists at the Rumuokoro axis in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area. This action follows numerous complaints on social media regarding the conduct of the female officers in the area.

Reports indicate that the officers had been involved in this unlawful practice for an extended period. According to a statement released by the command's spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the officers—Inspector Sarah Anendei, Inspector Caroline Promise, and Inspector Christiana Jatau—were caught engaging in corrupt practices against innocent motorists under the Rumuokoro Flyover.

The arrests occurred during a coordinated monitoring patrol by the Commissioner of Police's team on October 29, 2024. The operation, held around 3 PM, resulted in the immediate capture of the three inspectors, with two of the officers—Caroline Promise and Christiana Jatau—reportedly conducting their unprofessional behavior while out of uniform, which further violated police standards.

Their actions were documented on video by a bystander, providing clear evidence of their misconduct.

Following an on-site investigation, the officers were searched, and the money taken from the motorists was recovered, reflecting a swift response to uphold ethical practices within the Rivers State Police Command.

The detained officers are now awaiting disciplinary action
