Northern governors have reaffirmed their commitment to significantly assist farmers in the region by enhancing access to funding, modern farming technologies, and critical infrastructure improvements, including roads and irrigation systems.
During a recent forum, the governors emphasized that Northern Nigeria possesses vast agricultural potential, which, if fully harnessed, could alleviate hunger and stimulate economic growth. They stated, "Agriculture should not only be seen as a means to feed our people but also as a catalyst for industrialization and job creation across the region."
The forum highlighted the importance of re-industrializing the North, particularly by reviving the textile value chain and developing agro-allied industries. Additionally, the governors commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his reform initiatives in the livestock sector and pledged to support the Federal Government's livestock development initiatives through necessary political will and commitment.
Recognizing the impact of climate change on agriculture, particularly concerning recent flood incidents, the governors resolved to collaborate with the Federal Government and other stakeholders to construct irrigation infrastructure, such as canals and waterways
