The Defense Headquarters has confirmed a tragic incident involving a naval officer at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Dansadau, where a fellow serviceman was killed under questionable circumstances during Operation FANSAN YAMMA. The shooting occurred early Friday morning at approximately 3:12 a.m. in Dansadau, Katsina State, as reported by Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defense Media Operations.
The officer involved, identified as Leading Seaman Akila A., has been arrested, disarmed, and detained while an investigation is underway. Maj.-Gen. Buba stated that following the investigation, the case will be forwarded to a standing court martial, which is responsible for adjudicating incidents involving military personnel.
"The administrative process of notifying the deceased’s family is underway, which is why we have not yet released the name to the public. It will, however, be disclosed soon,” Buba noted. He urged media outlets to approach the reporting of this incident with sensitivity, emphasizing the need to respect the emotional well-being of the affected family.
