Global Tree Species in Critical Danger: Over One-Third at Risk of Extinction

A new global analysis released on Monday highlights a staggering crisis for the world’s trees, with over one in three species facing the threat of extinction.

This decade-long project, conducted for the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List, reveals that of the 47,282 tree species assessed, at least 16,425 are at risk.

This alarming figure is more than double the total number of threatened birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians combined.

The findings underscore the critical state of our planet's ecosystems and coincide with the ongoing two-week UN biodiversity conference in Cali, Colombia.
