Ghana Eyes Fuel Supply from Dangote Oil Refinery to Cut Import Costs

Ghana is exploring the possibility of sourcing fuel from Nigeria’s Dangote Petroleum Refinery once it reaches full operational capacity. This move aims to reduce the country's reliance on expensive petroleum imports from Europe, according to Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, Chairman of Ghana's National Petroleum Authority.

Speaking at the OTL Africa Downstream Oil Conference in Lagos, Abdul-Hamid highlighted that sourcing fuel locally could eliminate the need for Ghana to spend approximately $400 million monthly on fuel imports from Europe. He noted, "If the refinery reaches 650,000 bpd capacity, all that volume cannot be consumed by Nigeria alone. Instead of importing as we currently do from Rotterdam, it will be much easier for us to import from Nigeria, and I believe that will bring down our prices."

This initiative reflects Ghana's strategic efforts to enhance energy security and reduce costs, leveraging regional resources to meet its fuel demands
