Father Arrested After Son Finds Gun Linked to Eiye Confraternity in Ogun State

A man identified as Oliver Sunday, a suspected member of the Eiye Confraternity, has been arrested in Ogun State after his 12-year-old son discovered a cut-to-size locally-made gun in their home and attempted to sell it for scrap. The incident took place when the boy, while sweeping, found the gun hidden under a chair and brought it to a scrap buyer, who alerted the police upon realizing the object was a firearm.

Sunday, originally from Uzebba in Edo State but residing in Ogijo, confessed to owning the gun and revealed that he had joined the cult group to benefit from land grabbing activities. He explained that he had been introduced to the Eiye Confraternity two years ago by a man named Ibaka, who he described as the group’s spiritual leader.

The boy recounted his difficult home life, stating that his father often neglected him and had a history of substance abuse, including alcohol and marijuana. He mentioned experiencing physical abuse, claiming his father once hit him with a cutlass over a misunderstanding regarding missing money.

In his admission, Sunday denied using drugs but acknowledged that he often brought women to their home instead of using guest accommodations. He stated that he would earn between ?60,000 and ?150,000 from land sales as part of his involvement with the cult.

The police have transferred both father and son to the Anti-Cultism Squad for further investigation. The spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command confirmed the arrest, noting that the recovered gun was painted blue, a color associated with the Eiye cult.
