The Borno State Police Command has successfully arrested six members of a notorious syndicate involved in kidnapping, armed robbery, and extortion in the Magumeri and Konduga Local Government Areas.
In a statement issued on Saturday, October 26, 2024, spokesperson ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso revealed that the police recovered ?2,637,000 in cash from the suspects, who had also been extorting villagers under the guise of tax collection.
“The Borno State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Yusufu Mohammed Lawal, has recorded another significant achievement in its ongoing efforts to combat criminality in the state,” the statement read.
The arrests occurred on October 25, 2024, following a credible tip-off that enabled the Command Crack Squad to conduct a covert operation in Chingowa Village, Konduga LGA. The suspects, identified as Modu Bindimi (26), Koso Modu Gana (24), Kassim Bulama (27), Isah Muhammed (21), Zarami Fantami (22), and Modu Bunu (24), were apprehended with a pump action gun, a live cartridge, and the cash.
Investigations revealed that the syndicate was responsible for numerous armed robberies and kidnappings in the region, as well as extorting money from villagers, claiming it was a tax to protect them from their criminal activities.
The suspects have confessed to their crimes and will be charged in court following a thorough investigation. Commissioner of Police Yusufu reiterated the Command's commitment to maintaining public safety and security and urged the public to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through designated emergency contacts
