‘Take that L, Real’ as Madrid’s loss is Barca’s gain.

Real Madrid definitely had the Copa del Rey final (in a few days) in sight heading into the clash as they were forced to rest key striker, Karim Benzema and also had to play without suspended Vinicius Junior and Eduardo Camavinga, injured David Alaba, and Luka Modric.

The result of all these eventually gave Real Sociedad the upper hand heading into the clash and eventually came out 2-0 winners at the Reale Arena, San Sebastian.

Former Real Madrid player Take Kubo gave the hosts the lead in the 47th minute while Dani Carvajal was sent off in the 61st minute before substitute Ander Barrenetxea (who came on for Take Kubo) extended the lead in the 85thminute to ensure the 3 points were in the bag.

Real Madrid face Osasuna in the Copa del Rey final on the 6th of May at the Estadio de La Cartuja, Sevilla but have mathematically said goodbye to the La Liga title as this loss means Barcelona are now 14 points clear at the top of the league and could win it in the next round of matches.
