Very often you are told of the importance of physical activity, why you shouldn't live a sedentary lifestyle and what exercise does to your body. You may have even considered signing up for the gym, but you either lack the funds or the motivation to make the decision.

Jogging or running is a common form of physical activity. It is appealing because it doesn't cost a lot to take part and you can run at your own designated time at whatever place you choose.
People who run choose to participate for fun, athletics races or marathons or for the purpose of exercise.

A sedentary lifestyle is usually associated with risk of developing hypertension, stroke and heart related problems. Your body can easily adapt to inactivity, thereby predisposing you to chronic diseases.

What regular running does is to improve your mental health, self-confidence, and quality of life.

Tips for your running program

Before starting your running program, visit your doctor for a full check up, especially if you haven't exercised for a long time or your are overweight. It will also help to know if you have any medical condition that may be worsened during exercise.

Start with walking for a few weeks before running.

You must always be hydrated, taking a bottle of water with you is advised

Don't run everyday, have at least 2 days of rest in a week.

Ensure you eat a healthy diet

Don't go for a run immediately after eating.

It is better you run during the early hours of the day or in the evening.

Your wears should be comfortable.

Avoid running in hard areas that make you susceptible to injury.

Avoid running or jogging near the roads. This is to reduce the chances of you inhaling polluted air from moving vehicles.

Have a pair of shoes suitable for running.
