President Tinubu Returns To Abuja

President Tinubu returned to the country, Abuja, on Monday after attending the 63rd ordinary session of the Authority of the ECOWAS Heads of States and Government in Guinea-Bissau, where he was appointed the chairman of ECOWAS.

President Tinubu, in his acceptance speech, told the West and other development partners that the sub-regional organization would not tolerate a coup or any undemocratic change of leadership in the region.

“We will not allow coup after coup in West Africa again,” Tinubu said. “We will take this up seriously with the African Union, Britain, and the United States. Yes, democracy is very tough to manage, but it is the best form of government.”

He asked all participants to commit to the expansion of democracy and the rule of law.

He committed to assist the region's government in maintaining the region's growth in democratic ideals and culture. "I am with you; Nigeria, we are back," he remarked.

However, the president requested that the subregional group start acting instead of wasting time on endless fruitless meetings.

He said, “For the confidence reposed on me, I pledge to your excellences, distinguished ladies and gentlemen, that I will do my best.”

He stated that, under his leadership, member countries would work together to ensure economic union.
