Police Ban Protests; Tell Aggrieved Parties to Go to Court

The inauguration of a new governor on May 29 will not be disrupted or subject to any type of protest, according to the police command in Ebonyi. It advised displeased lawmakers to file an electoral petition in order to obtain redress.

Onome Onovwakpoyeya, who serves as the command's press secretary, issued the warning on Sunday on behalf of police commissioner Olawale Faleye.

“We are ready to ensure security and we will not tolerate any form of protest and I urge you to be law-abiding,” Mr Faleye said.

“Members of political parties should avoid violence and have confidence in the court and as such, they should wait for the outcome of the tribunal verdict on the cases already in court.”

The police chief issued a warning, saying that if anyone or any group of people intentionally disrupted law and order, the police would not hesitate to take decisive action.

He urged citizens to uphold the law and avoid disorderly behavior both during and after the state's new government's inauguration on May 29.

Mr. Olaleye gave the assurance that the command's personnel were ready and dedicated to the protection of people and property.
