ORAL THRUSH AND SEX

It is common to hear some say oral sex causes candidiasis of the mouth
And you must have wondered the relationship between sex and oral thrush.

Thrush is a common fungal infection caused by an overgrowth of the Candida fungus in the mouth, throat, or esophagus. It is also known as oral candidiasis.

Candida fungus is part of the normal flora in your body that poses damage when there's an overgrowth

Can oral sex cause oral Thrush?
Candida Fungus also lives in the vagina and penis. When you perform oral sex on an individual already infected, you increase your chances of getting oral candidiasis.
You also have a risk of having vaginal or penile yeast infection when you receive oral sex from an individual who has oral thrush

How to recognize Oral Thrush;

White or cream-colored lesions on the tongue, inner cheeks, gums, tonsils, or roof of the mouth

Pain or discomfort in the mouth or throat

Difficulty swallowing

Dry or cracked skin at the corners of the mouth.

Thrush is not limited to oral sex and can occur in anyone, but it is more common in infants, elderly people because of the weakend immune system, and those with weakened immune systems. Thrush can also be caused by certain medications, such as antibiotics.

How do you treat Oral Thrush?

Antifungal medications such as Fluconazole or Nystatin can be used

Maintaining good oral hygiene to prevent candida overgrowth can help stop the occurrence of thrush.

As much as possible avoid oral sex with an individual already infected with candidiasis.
