OBIdient Movement is Not About Tribe or Religion, but Saving Nigeria–Obi

The "Obidient" movement is not an Igbo agenda or an attempt to Christianize Nigeria, according to Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party. Instead, he says, his goal is a united Nigeria where the youth feel like they belong.

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party, has refuted assertions that the "Obidient" movement has Igbo political goals or is an attempt to christianize Nigeria.

On March 26, 2023, Obi emphasized in a Twitter post that the movement is not about his tribe or religion but rather about preserving Nigeria and its democracy.

He explained that he serves as the movement's focal point and that his dream for Nigeria is for it to be united and for young people from all geopolitical zones to feel like they belong.

The mission of the OBIdient movement is described by Peter Obi.

There is a turning point in every nation's history, he wrote. The time to save Nigeria, save our democracy, and instill optimism in the nation's youth is now. The take back Nigeria mission has been guided by the OBIdient Movement.

"I play the part of a focal point for the Movement. Nigeria, as I've always emphasized, is still a secular state. As a result, the movement is not about my tribe or my faith, nor is there any attempt to Christianize Nigeria or further Igbo interests.

He urged everyone to avoid ascribing ethnic or religious overtones to the OBIdient movement and declared his intention to lead a united and indivisible Nigeria as president.

"I want to see a new Nigeria where the child of nobody would rise to become somebody. A country with national interests as its foundation, rather than regional interests, where all young people from all six geographical zones will have a feeling of ownership over the affairs of their nation.

"No one should attribute the OBIdient Movement with a racial or religious bias. My goal is to lead a united and independent Nigeria since we are one nation.

Here's What You Need to Know:

The name of the movement, OBIdient, is a wordplay that combines the letters "OBI," which stand for "heart" in the Igbo language, with the word "obedience" to represent the necessity for Nigerians to have a sincere and obedient heart toward their nation.
