Nigerians React to First Lady Remi Tinubu's Launch of National Unity Fabric for October 1

Nigerians have taken to social media to share their thoughts after First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu unveiled the OneNigeria/Unity Fabric, which she called a symbol of national unity. During the launch at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja on Monday, Mrs. Tinubu explained that her idea for a national fabric was inspired by her visit to Zimbabwe in December 2023, where she observed a similar initiative.

She announced that the new fabric would be worn nationwide to celebrate Nigeria's Independence Day on October 1, 2024. The First Lady also mentioned that the fabric would be mass-produced by local manufacturers to support the textile industry, create jobs, and boost the economy.

The announcement has sparked mixed reactions among Nigerians on social media. While some have praised the initiative, others believe the timing is inappropriate, given that many Nigerians are facing hunger, unemployment, and rising living costs.
