MY MATH TEACHER TOLD ME I WOULD BE SIGNED TO MAVINS RECORD WHEN I WAS 14 YEARS - AYRA STARR.

Ayra Starr began her professional music career in 2020 after signing with Mavin Records, one of the leading record labels in Nigeria.

She had an interview with Joey Akan on African Intelligent podcast. She shared more light about herself, she spoke about the school she went to and how tough it was to be there. Gave a reoccurrence on she was always asking questions every time the teachers grays what she felt wasn't right. E.g: wearing of trousers isn't right for females, also when she painted one of her finger nails pink and was punished by the teacher.

She gave kudos to her mathematics and civic (Mr. saheed and Mr. yinka) believed in her when she 14 years old, although the mathematics teacher is a Muslim but often encouraged her to sing and lead even in the church by joining the choir department. He said it that she was going to be signed to Mavins record, and it came to pass.

She also spoke about how the name "Ayra Starr” was birthed because people call her Oyin but the team came together and said she needed a stage name and “IRA” was given but due to mispronunciation she tried to figure something else by praying and checking the Google, saw the meaning of “Ayra” and this was how she adopted it because it speaks all about what she stands for.

Furthermore, she spoke about how skeptical she was about the “Rush” song, she wasn't too sure if it was okay, but her team told her it was outstanding and after the song was released she got countless kudos that elevated her.
