Militant Groups Clash Near the Gulf of Guinea in Nigeria

Yesterday, fighting broke out between the Ijaw and Biafra separatist militant groups in Nigerian territorial waters close to the Gulf of Guinea.

The incident specifically took place at Uyenghe, in Akwa Ibom State's Mbo Council, close to the Gulf of Guinea. There were some injuries among the militants, but no fatalities were reported in the incident.

The Black Marine, a militant group allegedly working for the Biafra Nations League (BNL), was attacked, according to reputable sources.

The sources stated: “One of the Black Marine former commander from Bayelsa, led his kinsmen to invade their camp and snatch boats and arms belonging to the Biafra separatist militants.”

In retaliation, two of the Ijaw militants were injured.”

Additionally, it was learned that the attack was the result of a betrayal by their second-in-command, a former commander of the Black Marine, who attempted to attack the Black Marine with his men in order to seize weapons and boats and form a separate group.

The incident was unfortunate, Princewill Richards, the National Leader of BNL, said in a statement to The Guardian.

He said: “I don’t know what the Ijaw militants are fighting for. At least, we know what the Black Marine stands for; these are pirates looking for means of survival.”
