Kidnappers on The Prowl In Kwara, Abduct Several Others, Including a Nursing Mother

In Kwara State, suspected armed kidnappers took Kehinde Ikeanabi Jibril, a nursing mother.

However, they spared and released her four-month-old infant to the elderly children.

The incident took place in the Asa Local Government Area of the state in the Oketu area of Ago-Oja town, about 30 minutes' drive from Ilorin, the state capital.

Just two days before Friday's Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, according to a news source investigation (Daily post), the nursing mother was kidnapped at her husband's home on Alhaji Isiaka Oloye Jagun Street at around 1am.

The abductee's husband, who was thought to be a cattle dealer and a top official of a cooperative society in the town, was the main target of the kidnappers.

When our correspondent visited the town on Thursday, the abducted woman's whereabouts were still unknown. The kidnappers reportedly demanded N10m for her release.

Speaking about the incident, the Baale of Ago-Oja, Malam Daudu Salaudeen Arolu, lamented the area's recent increase in kidnapping incidents, calling the development regrettable and frightful.

He revealed that another victim, who was reportedly a student at the Kwara State Polytechnic, was also kidnapped on the fateful day the nursing mother was taken away in an attack at his home in the town.

Before being taken away to an unidentified location, Daudu claimed the boy was seriously hurt when he confronted the armed kidnappers who had been firing randomly at his Abiye residence in Ago-Oja.

The boy later passed away in the hospital from his wounds sustained in the attack, according to the grieving community leader, even though the kidnappers had received N400,000 in ransom before releasing him.

The Baale also revealed that one person was earlier kidnapped on Good Friday eve, days before the abduction of the nursing mother and the late student, but was later freed after paying N2.8m out of the N3m ransom demanded.

He claimed that after the release of the victim, who had also sustained injuries while being held captive, police officers and vigilante groups were called upon to conduct the rescue operation.

A team of security personnel, including soldiers, visited the town on Wednesday this week in relation to the incident, according to Daudu.

The state government urgently needed to come to the people's aid because their lives were no longer safe, according to the Baale, despite the fact that security had been stepped up in the town in cooperation with vigilante groups.

The community leader claims that there are no police stations along the section of road connecting Ogbondoroko, Ago-Oja, Laduba, and Afon town, the seat of Asa Local Government.

“There is no police post in our area except in Afon town.” he said

According to a news report, the Magaji Erubu, Dr. Erubu, was recently kidnapped at his farm in Ago-Oja by armed robbers and later released after being held captive for days.

The Alangua of Laduba, Mohammed Saidu, also discussed the threat of kidnappers in the region and claimed that his community's residents now live in fear.

The nearby community of Laduba Town shares a border with Ago-Oja in the region.

Mohammed claimed that additional security measures have been taken to protect local residents' lives and property.
